Folder Info

The Folder Info window is used to set the attributes of a Folder script item. This window is opened when a new Folder item is created from Script:New Item:Folder. It is also opened when a Folder item is selected and Script:Edit Item... is chosen.
The Folder Info window contains the following items:
- Name
- This entry field represents the name of the folder as it will be installed on the user's target disk. This does not necessarily have to be the same as the name of the folder from your hard disk. For new folders that are created with the Script:New Item:Folder menu option, the name defaults to "Untitled folder".
- If Folder is found
- This popup menu presents a list of choices for handling the situation where a folder with the same name is found at the current install location on the user's target disk.
- "Keep contents" does not empty the folder before installing into it. This preserves the folder's contents, unless items get replaced by items with the same names from within the installer. This option is useful for replacing applications without overwriting documents that the user may have modified.
- "Delete contents" empties the folder before installing into it. This option is useful for resetting a folder during installation, but it should be used with caution in situations where the user may have added or modified items within the folder.
- If folder not found
- This popup menu presents a list of choices for handling the situation where a folder with the same name is not found at the current install location on the user's target disk.
- "Create it" simply creates the folder at the current install location.
- "Do not create it" avoids creating the folder. Any items within this folder in your script are not installed.
- Make alias after installation
- This setting allows you to automatically create an alias file from the folder that is installed. If the folder is not installed for any reason (e.g. system rules not met), then an alias is not created. Aliases are only supported by version 7.0 or later of the MacOS.
- Where
- This button allows you to specify the name and destination for the alias file. Clicking this button opens the Alias Info window where the name and destination can be set. Aliases can be created in a number of locations, including the user's Apple Menu Items folder and Desktop.
- Restore icon positions of contents
- This setting gives you control over whether icon positions should be restored for a folder. This setting is not available for folders that are added with the Script:New Item:Folder menu option since these folders do not represent actual folders on your hard disk. The setting is available for folders added through the Script:New Item:Folder & Contents menu option.
Checking the Restore icon positions of contents option for a folder does not ensure that icon positions will be restored during installation. To avoid the chance for overlapping icons, the installer does not restore icon positions if it is installing into a folder that is already on the user's target disk. In this case, the installer tells the Finder to assign positions for new icons installed. The installer does restore icon positions for folders that it either creates or empties.
- Attributes
- This tab area allows you to set various attributes for the current item. These attributes include the following:
For further details on these attribute categories, see the Attributes section of this guide.
- Change
- This button closes the window, saving any changes. When an item is first created, this button is named Create.
- Cancel
- This button closes the window, canceling any changes.
- Delete
- This button deletes the current item from the script. When an item is first created, this button is not available.
